VFI News - MERCY MINISTRY VISIT TO MURCHISON BAY PRISON ON THE
19TH SEPTEMBER, 2008
On the 19th of September, 2008, Mercy Ministries
had the privilege to visit prisoners in ? Murchison
Bay Prison. Although these outreaches are always life
transforming bolt for the inmates and the Ministry
Team, there was something phenomenal about its particular
visit.
Although we had planned our visit way ahead and knew
how much we needed in terms of logistics, it was not
until Friday afternoon that we were able to purchase
the items we needed, it was also around the sometime
after a week of haggling with prison officials that
we were eventually given permission to visit a process
that often takes 4 days at maximum on any alter visit.
As a team we had agreed to meet at the Vfi office
by 10:00am and set off the same hourso as to spend
plenty of time ministering to the inmates, but as
fate would have it there was a heavy downpour that
started in the three hours of that Saturday morning
to 10:00am. By the time the members started arriving
it was past 11:00am. By midday we had only made of
4 people, but thanks be God who leads us in triumph,
we put on our ? of faith to ? the ? darts of discouragement
and despair and ? our feet with shoes taking the gospel
of peace and as onward Christian soldiers we marched
on the Luzira Prison with the cross of Jesus going
before us.
As divine as this visit was our reception this time
? unlike previous visits was really warm and less
?, we were ? given ? way to prison chapel ? much identification
apart from our letter of automation.
Although we were to minister alongside a white couple,
we were given the opportunity considering ? were for
? session. With glaringly no presence of any musical
instrument apart from locally made drum, the inmates
ushered into ? Praise and worship characterized by
shouting, clapping, dancing and jumping regardless
of those around them by filled with the joy of the
Lord, just like king David danced.
As the main preacher delivered his summon the Holy
Spirit gave him insight in the ? revelation concerning
freedom and liberty. For the inmates and the visitors
? we came to the ? Realization that freedom is not
being outside the iron bars of Luzira prison but a
state of the mind for He who ? the Son free is free
indeed. (this explained the hindrances and ? we encountered
in trying to make this visit a reality).
As our preacher continued ministering, the ? was
received with thunderous ? as it fell on fertile ground,
raising the faith of many and setting us free from
? and challenges. At the climax of it the truth let
many free ?. ? young inmates responded to the other
call and gave their lives to the Lord which is uncommon
in Murchison Bay in spite of the several preachers
who visit the prison.
As we wind up ? Thanksgiving praise their was a sense
of ? and joy among everyone present, a physical manifestation
the ? that had our minds board had been ?.
For he who the Son sets free is free indeed whether
on death row in a maximum ? or sunbathing on the shores
of lake Victoria.
